Patrick Cook

Owner, Photographer, Graphic Designer

The story of Expressions Photography & Design begins during Patrick Cook's senior year at Quincy High School. Knowing he had an empty hour in his schedule, the school's yearbook adviser suggested he join the yearbook staff. Patrick began taking pictures and videos. This led to him attending Kellogg Community College to study graphic design. With extra scholarship money, Patrick purchased his first camera and laptop, thus making a photography business possible. After receiving his Associate in Applied Science in Graphic Design from KCC, Patrick transferred to Grand Valley State University with a distinguished graduate scholarship (from Kellogg Community College).

During the summer of 2006, Patrick began developing a portfolio using pictures of family and friends. Expressions Photography & Design was born. The business began small during summer months between college semesters. After receiving his Bachelor of Fine Arts from GVSU, the business began to take shape on a larger scale. After college, Patrick worked part-time with his brothers but pushed to develop Expressions into a full-time business. In the first full year, Patrick booked ten weddings, 30 seniors and two local little league organizations. In 2011, the business had grow enough to rent a studio space in downtown Quincy. Wedding bookings doubled, seniors from other school districts began using Expressions and Santa began his yearly visits. The business quickly outgrew the downtown studio space. In 2013, Patrick married Lisa LaFountain and the couple transformed their garage into a larger studio space. The growth of the business also allowed for the hiring of part-time help. In 2014, Expressions photographed 23 weddings, nearly 60 high school seniors, dozens of families and newborns, all events for the Sauk Theatre in Jonesville, seven youth sports leagues, local pageants, 138 Santa sessions and much, much more. In 2015, Expressions has expanded again and hired an office/web manager. Since it began, Expressions Photography & Design has stayed dedicated to the local community. As we continue to grow, we are committed to offering quality photographic and design services.
